Who should receive training on the bbRad Admin Console?
The actual users of bbRad vary from site to site. Most commonly however, it is your PACS administrator, and sometimes other roles, for example MDT co-ordinators, or radiographers that perform emergency transfers out-of-hours.
-
What testing should we expect prior to go-live
As part of our build process, we will test the bbRad installation at various stages, so you may receive notification emails as part of this. We will also ask you to conduct end-to-end tests sending one or more tests to one of your favourite recipients
-
Do email notifications need to route externally, ie to an outside email address?
Yes they do. In addition to your admin staff, email notifications will also go to our support@ email address. Therefore on your mailserver you will need to enable mail relay from the bbRad gateway.
-
How do you provide remote support?
For NHS sites we provide remote support over N3. For non-NHS sites, we provide remote support via LogMeIn remote access product.
-
What external firewall changes are needed?
In addition to remote support, the bbRad gateway will need to have FTP outbound access to 81.179.236.104 and also 91.208.170.178
-
What ports are used for LAN traffic?
The bbRad Gateway listens on the following ports from your local LAN: FTP port 21 (for Direct connections), 80, 1100-1104. It will also make outbound DICOM connections (usually port 104 but this varies depending on vendor of your DICOM equipment such as workstations, PACS, etc)
-
Can the bbRad Console co-exist with other Java applications, for example CRIS?
Yes. bbRad will run on Java 1.4 upwards, and will whatever version of Java is already on the machine. That is to say, it avoids Java conflicts with other applications by not downloading its own version, and just using whatever is available. We have many customers using bbRad alongside CRIS without issue.

We've checked all the configuration and network settings, but something still isn't right. Is there anything else we should check?
We have experienced the following 'gotchas', causing difficult-to-trace issues during installation; some could well apply to your situation:
. Firewall between bbRad Console user, and bbRad gateway, that was blocking 'active content', including Java
. Even though DICOM and IP details all matched up correctly, the bbRad Gateway Virtual Machine presented to the local LAN via NAT. This meant the presenting IP was different to that of the actual bbRad gateway, and so PACS rejected the associations -
What is the need for SMTP server access for the bbRad Gateway?
bbRad sends email notification alerts for failed studies to specific recipients that are configured on the bbRad Gateway. The SMTP server will need to allow relay to support@cypherit.co.uk so that we can receive the emails. All other addresses that the notifications will be sent to would normally be internal email addresses.
The email notifications allow us to provide better support, so are vital to the bbRad setup before go-live.

What do I need to backup?
bbRad has two areas where it stores information. The install-directory and data-directory can vary dependant on the site drive configuration.
The bbRad server does its own backups each day and keeps one weeks worth. There is a full backup and daily backup as follows:
Full includes
everything under {install-directory}\Program Files\bbRad
everything under {data-directory}\bbRad\dataDaily includes
data files: {data-directory}\bbRad\data
audit files: {install-directory}\bbRad\audit
keys: {install-directory}\bbRad\keys
config files: {install-directory}\config
log files - current day's log files + 1 day's previous log files: {install-directory}\logThe backup files are stored under {data-directory}\bbRad\backup
The image files are not backed up and upto a maximum of one month's image files are kept as bbRad is not designed as an image archive system.
bbRad does not currently run SQL server.
-
Can we install security software such as anti-virus on the bbRad Gateway?
Yes you can. When configuring, please exclude the bbRad cache and data directories (usually under c:\bbRad), otherwise bbRad performance will be significantly affected. Please note that due to the rate of change and huge number of anti-virus software available, we are unable to validate any given vendor/version against bbRad.
